Job Description

Role: Senior Accountant

Location : Washington, D.C

Office Schedule — 5 Days in office (Possibility of flex)

Pay : $30 - $36 / hour commensurate with experience

Benefits: This role is eligible for medical, dental, vision and 401k.

Our client, a well-established nonprofit organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant with 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the nonprofit or grant-funded sector, and experience utilizing fund accounting software. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required, no flex)
  • 5+ years of experience with fund accounting, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct,)
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, grant-funded, or mission-driven organization

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger and oversee month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP for nonprofit organizations (ASC 958)
  • Manage restricted and unrestricted fund accounting and ensure donor/grant compliance
  • Reconcile GL account balances and bank/investment accounts
  • Support preparation of Form 990 and assist with the annual independent audit
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports and support the annual budgeting process
  • Review and approve accounts payable/receivable transactions
  • Assist with grant reporting and compliance documentation for funders
  • Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff
  • Support special projects as assigned
