Job Description

Purpose:

The Mechanical Trainer/Coach will safely oversee daily maintenance operations using precision and preventative maintenance practices to maximize the reliability and up time of all plant equipment. The Mechanical Tainer/Coach will be the champion of technician development and coaching, and new innovative tool implementation, while adhering to plant maintenance practices to maximize efficiency and safety of plant maintenance personnel. Fill in for the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to and enforce all of UNACEM safety policies and MSHA regulations.
  • Conduct pre-shift safety meetings, field audits, and equipment inspections.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free working environment.
  • Research and implement the current mechanical safety codes, training, and safe work practices to ensure the technical personnel and equipment are as efficient as possible for the plant operations. 
  • Supervise daily mechanical maintenance activities, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
  • Coordinate with Production, Electrical, and Planning departments to prioritize work orders.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures on equipment such as kilns, conveyors, crushers, ball mills, gearboxes, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
  • Review work orders for accuracy, time allocation, and material usage.
  • Develop and implement a Mechanical Training Program for continuous skill enhancement of the mechanical maintenance department. 
  • Conduct task training on equipment such as man lifts, cranes, etc.
  • Provide coverage during plant shutdowns to ensure a salaried supervisory presence for effective coordination and supervision.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and support employee development.
  • Maintain staffing schedules, manage callouts, and coordinate overtime needs
  • Promote teamwork and accountability within the maintenance department.
  • Assist in the development of the path for the mechanical department, providing insights into the training needs of the mechanical personnel.
  • Develop a progression plan for mechanical maintenance personnel
  • Support improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Recommend upgrades, modifications, or replacement of equipment to enhance reliability.
  • Verify the quality of all mechanical repairs and rebuilds
  • Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) of recurring equipment failures.
  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track maintenance activities.
  • Maintain inventory of critical spare parts and coordinate procurement needs
  • Close work orders once completed
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on the status of the mechanical training program and recommendations for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial, cement, mining, or similar environment 

  • 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems, including: bearings, couplings, drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, Kiln/Mill equipment, conveyor systems
  • Knowledge of MSHA and industrial standards.
  • Strong communication skills, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work rotating schedules, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
