MT ELON BAPTIST CHURCH

JOB DESCRIPTION

PASTOR

I.            PURPOSE

To provide professional, full time direction and spiritual leadership to the congregation of Mt. Elon Baptist Church in pure candor.

II.           ACCOUNTABILITY

The pastor is accountable to the Board of Deacons, and through the Deacons, to the congregation.

III.          REQUIREMENTS

1.           The Pastor shall be a born again believer who strives under the leadership of the Holy Spirit to live a committed Christian life.

2.           The Pastor shall demonstrate spiritual and emotional maturity.

3.           If married, the Pastor’s spouse is to be in full agreement with the desire to serve the Lord.

IV.          TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The  Pastor shall:

1.           Be the recognized spiritual leader of the congregation.

2.           Be the primary preacher/teacher of the Word of God (as interpreted from the Holy Bible to the congregation.

3.           Be the primary person responsible for family ministry, relying on the Board of Deacons for assistance in unusual cases.

4.           Serve as the administrative officer of the church.

5.           Work with Church Council and Deacon Board to accomplish the goals and objectives of the church.  This includes the calendar and upcoming events on at least a quarterly basis.

6.           Plan and conduct public worship services.

7.           Teach and preach the Holy Bible.

8.           Conduct funerals and weddings.

9.           Represent the church at associational meetings.

10.        Visit the hospitalized, shut-ins, prospects, church members (both active & inactive), and follow up on visitors cards.

11.        Promote missions programs and groups in agreement with the church.

12.        Always remember that he is representing Mt. Elon Baptist Church wherever he may be and that he is a Servant of God.

POLICY LETTER

The Pastor should:

1.           Be available and visible to greet members and visitors as they arrive at all services.

2.           Not schedule meetings in conflict with other church programs.

3.           Not schedule personal time off without proper notification and approval of the Board of Deacons.

4.           Not spend church money without prior approval of the church.

5.           Not invite paid guest speakers or singers without prior approval.
